History

Arbee Business was founded in 1902. Arbee Business began in 1902. The business’s owner, Mr. R.B.Stevens who was a famous merchant of leather, established the business to market his leather goods.

The Arbee original manufacturing facility, business, and shop was located situated in Swanston Street, Melbourne.

In the 1930s Arbee was expanding to create the well-known Arbee moccasins. They gained a lot of attention because they featured tough cowhide on the exterior and a layer of lambswool inside. Arbee produced the moccasins over several years, while the sets were popular during the 1960s and the 1970s. The time was when Arbee was able to diversify its offerings with other items that were popular e.g. cane items.

In the early 1960s Arbee moved to a larger store at 354 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne in order to accommodate the expansion of collections which included lampshade frames, weaving mosaic tiles, cane as well as other handcrafted items. Arbee had the largest selection of crafts in Australia at the time. Arbee increased its workforce to 56 employees across their ten stores in Melbourne as well as a store located in Sydney as well as Hobart. The stores were home to regular classes in craft. Additionally, Arbee began manufacturing polystyrene balls, as well as a range of books on craft were created and published through Arbee in the 1960s.

In 1974, Mr. Stevens decided to concentrate on wholesale operations and shut down Arbee in 1974. Arbee shops. The business moved in North Box Hill to become an important wholesaler for importing and distributing craft products in Australia.

It was in the 80s that Arbee start selling items made of felt and craft to Spotlight stores. At the time, Spotlight had just seven stores, and has now grown to become a major major retailer with around 120 shops. Arbee continues to provide all Spotlight stores across the country and internationally with dress and craft felt collections.

In the latter part of 1990, Stevens was able to sell the company on into the Newey family, who continue to manage the business.

2005 saw the start of online sales for Arbee and at the time it was required to move to Moorabbin to accommodate a bigger warehouse that the company needed. But it wasn’t that long after the Arbee company grew and relocated twice over the following decade to its current site at Noble Park.

In addition to their ongoing wholesale operations for major retailers as well as internet clients, Arbee now has a shop inside their warehouse, offering special purchases and clearance lines to customers of all kinds, everyone is welcomed to stop by and purchase at Arbee’s shop. Arbee shop.

In the present, Arbee supplies thousands of customers around the world with more than 2000 products.
