Background

The playground that’s currently Churchill National Park was when the authorities corps headquarters to get blacktrackers and supplied grazing land to the authorities horses. Several years after it was called the Dandenong Police Paddocks. From the 1920s, urban growth brought some modification to the parklands, which was known as Police Paddocks. Local stone was dug up for road steel and construction material, a water distribution channel was cut into Dandenong, along with the State Electricity Commission acquired a power line easement. In 1939 the region has been set aside as the Dandenong National Park, gazetted in February 1941, and later renamed Churchill National Park in 1944.

A classic quarry is situated at the northwest corner of this playground, remains of those related tramway and crusher bases remain visible. The tramway was called the Scoresby Tramway. The tramway was utilized to transfer crushed stone from the quarry, it had been assembled from the Dandenong Shire Council in 1912. The wagons went by gravity for the majority of the space, once the topography leveled outhorses were used to draw out the wagons. The quarry worked for about 3 Decades, the tramway was eliminated following the cessation of quarrying.

Characteristics
