Starfish Early Learning Centre – Springvale
Starfish Early Learning Centres, which are privately owned, are a childcare facility for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
Five Starfish Early Learning Centres are currently operating in Melbourne. Each building was designed by an architect and an interior designer to create a safe and welcoming environment for children. In designing the facility, we also considered the developmental stages and ages of the children.
Each Starfish Centre has six learning areas for children, and two outdoor areas. Each room has its own lockers, children’s bathrooms, nappy changing benches, a storeroom, and an outdoor area. Children under two years of age have their own space for food preparation, including a microwave and refrigerator.
The Centre is open 50 weeks of each year, with the exception of public holidays. It will also be closed for two weeks during Christmas and New Years. Families will be notified prior to the closure. They are open from 7am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday.
Their Centre is licensed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and complies with the “Education and Care Services Act 2010 and the “Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011.” The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority has accredited them.
Starfish’s philosophy revolves around five elements that make up who they are and what motivates them to do what they do: Children, Family Diversity, Learning Environment, Community, and Children.
They are early childhood mentors, carers, and educators who strongly believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected.
They want children to be creative, strong, capable, and active learners. Every child is considered an individual with diverse learning styles, abilities, interests, and cultures.
They recognize that each child is a member of a family, with rights and responsibilities that go beyond Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish to Starfish and beyond to the global community.
They value and respect children’s diverse expressions and understanding of the world. Their job is to encourage children to be heard and take an active part in their learning and development. Their pedagogical documentation is a visible tool for children to learn.
Starfish recognizes that the family is the child’s first teacher. They also respect your contributions to the learning community.
They believe that building respectful relationships with their families will foster strong partnerships and support the child’s learning.
Starfish encourages families to be involved as they respect and value different parenting styles. They also encourage learning and support a community where all are welcome.
Children feel connected to their community and have a greater awareness of the world around us by staying involved.
They pay respects and honor the traditional custodians of their land, where they learn and play. Their goal is to bring awareness to the land and history of Indigenous Australians and to encourage reconciliation.
They seek to make their community more inclusive by sharing knowledge and experiences. Through interaction and engagement, the children’s learning outcomes can be enhanced through partnerships.
Starfish is proud to be a part of Australia’s amazing multi-cultural and diverse nation.
This is why they share different aspects of their diversity with each other in their learning community.
Their mission is to support, accept, and value all children, families, and educators in their community. Through the use of culturally appropriate resources, family involvement and community involvement, they help to develop and enhance their understanding and appreciation for their diverse cultures.
Starfish is a learning community that values social justice, equity, and inclusion. They will explore children’s views about race, gender and culture as well as their family composition, sexual orientation, immigration, and other issues to help advocate for a more just society.
