Afri-Aus Care are a group of professionals from a variety of backgrounds who offer assistance to youth who are migrant who come from African and other cultures as well as their families who are at risk of having mental health problems or inter-generational conflicts or who are being referred to the court system because of offences that arise from these situations. Their members are trained case workers psychologists, social workers, and psychologists as well as members of communities from the CALD community who are able to interact and interact with clients in a respectful cultural manner.

Afri-Aus Care Inc. provides the culturally Appropriate Psychological Health assessment and a range of support services for African Australian youth-at-risk, their family members and people from other background of CALD. They employ UBUNTU guidelines as well as The Positive Change Model to guide their approach to helping people lead meaningful lives. Participants are then directed to the appropriate health specialists and other stakeholders to ensure feasible outcomes. They utilize Culturally Appropriate programs throughout their programs, which is why their organization has been able reach out to members of the community at the local and community level. They also collaborate with public and private stakeholders such as government agencies, Rotary clubs, and educational institutions in order to meet their objectives. They offer intensive biopsychosocial and wellbeing risk assessment such as counselling, legal/court/post-release community support, alternative education and employment pathways as well as further referrals to appropriate health care providers and other organisations. Afri-Aus Care provides placement opportunities for students at tertiary universities in Victoria and the surrounding areas, such as RMIT, Monash University, Chisholm, Holmesglen, Swinburne University of Technology, Stott’s College, Victoria University, and many more. Afri-Aus Care also works with the University of Melbourne, the Swinburne University of Technology and Psyche Foundation on a range studies and evaluation initiatives.

SELBA GONDOZA-LUKA

Born in Malawi, Selba Gondoza Luka is a Mental Health Clinician specializing in at-risk youth in the African and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities. Ms Luka is awed by her own experience of domestic violence and the lengthy process of healing the broken relationship she had with her daughter emerged from the shadows and established Afri-Aus Care in 2015. Enthusiastic about ending the cycle of youth-prison for many and closing the gap in Intergenerational Conflict Ms Luka is a key basis for many troubled and broken families to rely on their way to take significant steps in the direction of healing.
